The Benefits of quitting smoking
May 21, 2015As Mark Twain once said, "Quitting smoking is easy. I've done it a thousand times." According to the Center for Disease Control, it is estimated that 42.1 million adults in the United States currently smoke cigarettes. Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States, accounting for more than 480,000 deaths every year, or 1 of every 5 deaths. Though the facts are many, why is it so hard for people to quit smoking? Quitting tobacco is difficult to quit in all of its forms cigarettes, cigars and chewing tobacco. They all contain nicotine, the addiction causing agent in tobacco that causes dependency. Dentists and dental professionals can help their patients quit once and for all.

FDA Rejects Tobacco industry label petition
May 21, 2015Earlier this month, on May 11, The Food and Drug Administration rejected a petition from the tobacco industry and their supporters, aimed at labeling smokeless tobacco products as presenting "lower" or "substantially less" risk to health than cigarettes. The American Dental Association urged the FDA to reject the petition, which they did.
