You’re never too old to be concerned about good oral health, including preventing tooth decay!
Children routinely get fluoride treatments with their 6 month annual cleanings. Unfortunately, many adults are unaware that they, too, can benefit from a fluoride treatment with their 6 month cleanings. Actually, fluoride plays a big role against decay from 1 year to 100 years.

Oral Health Concerns for patients over 50

As you age, you may notice you are getting cavities, when you previously never had trouble with them before. For many over the age of 50, and who regularly use medication, your cavities may be the side effect of your medicine. Many prescription drugs list dry mouth as a side effect of their use. Saliva helps protect teeth and when your mouth is dry your teeth are at risk. Make sure to use an over the counter oral moisturizer, such as mouth wash to keep your mouth clean and moisturized

Last month, Dakota Family Dentistry and other area dentists helped fourth grade students at Jefferson Elementary School brush up on their oral health, with a free dental screening and education session. Seeing the success of other community outreach programs, Dr. Jesse Fast and the Dakota Family Dentistry team, organized the event as a public service. Students were given an exam and screened for any serious oral health problems. Patients and their parents received a copy of the screening results along with a list of local dentists who could help with any potential or specific dental issues.

Dakota Family Dentistry will be closed the week of June 2-6th for system upgrades and staff training. During this time Dakota Family Dentistry will be undergoing software updates to improve the efficiency of office procedures and patient management as well as transitioning from 2D to 3D imaging technology with the addition of a new Kodak 3D Extraoral Panoramic Imaging System.
